Impeccable condition, unpolished and untouched example
The Patek Philippe reference 570, produced from 1938 to 1972, is widely known among collectors as the
celebrated “Big Calatrava.” The nickname refers to its larger dimensions compared to the classic
reference 96, giving the watch a stronger wrist presence while preserving the elegant proportions
that define Patek Philippe’s design philosophy.
This example from 1960, crafted in 18K white gold, represents one of the most classic and desirable
configurations: the centre-seconds version powered by the manual-winding in-house calibre 27 SC.
The original dial, signed Patek Philippe and marked “Swiss,” perfectly reflects the timeless
elegance that has made the reference 570 one of the most iconic Calatrava models ever produced.
The case, preserved in unpolished condition, remains particularly impressive. Its flat, thick
bezel with mirror finishing retains exceptional definition and crisp proportions, highlighting
the quality of the original construction. The caseback also displays well-preserved circular
finishing with visible depth and a sharp central surface.
The watch is accompanied by its Extract from the Archives of Patek Philippe, as well as its
original strap and original Patek Philippe buckle, elements that further enhance the integrity
and collectability of the piece.
Examples preserved in such untouched condition have become increasingly rare. Reference 570
stands as one of the pillars of Patek Philippe collecting — a watch that perfectly embodies
the maison’s aesthetic philosophy, often summarized by the timeless principle: “Simple is best.”
