This Piaget Altiplano Ref. 12303 represents the very first generation of automatic Altiplano watches and the debut reference to house the legendary Calibre 12P. Produced between 1959 and 1960, it marks a defining milestone in the history of ultra-thin watchmaking.
The Calibre 12P, featuring a solid gold micro-rotor, measured just 2.3 mm in thickness at launch, making it the thinnest automatic movement in the world at the time. This technical achievement cemented Piaget’s reputation as the master of ultra-thin haute horlogerie.
Even more significant, this reference is historically associated with Alain Delon, a close friend of the Piaget family, who famously wore a Clous-de-Paris dial version of the same model. The present example, crafted in 18K white gold and fitted with a refined silver sector dial, represents one of the most elegant and collectible executions of the reference.
Preserved in excellent condition and complete with its original signed white gold Piaget buckle, this watch stands as both a design icon and a mechanical landmark. A museum-grade timepiece, embodying the origins of the Altiplano collection and a pivotal chapter in the evolution of ultra-thin automatic movements.
